  • Scripps College

We are thrilled to announce that our camp will be hosted at the beautiful Scripps College campus. Its breathtaking grounds, top-notch facilities, delicious food, and convenient location made it an obvious choice for the year 2024.

Scripps College is situated in Claremont, California, a community of 35,000 residents near the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, on the eastern edge of Los Angeles County. Although downtown LA is only a 35-mile drive away, Claremont is also located within easy reach of other areas such as Pasadena (28 miles), Orange County beaches (42 miles), Palm Springs (77 miles), or San Diego (120 miles). The campus is just a short walk from the Village, a downtown area with various amenities such as restaurants, shops, a movie theatre, a bi-weekly farmers' market, and services such as banks, a library, and a post office.

    Getting to Scripps College
Ontario International Airport is the closest airport (15 minutes) and flights there can sometimes be less expensive than to LAX. (It can take anywhere from an hour to three hours one way, to get to Claremont from LAX, depending on Los Angeles traffic!)

From Ontario airport, Lyft or Uber are good choices. The cost is $17-$22 one way. We encourage you to find participants to ride-share with.

From LAX, a Lyft or Uber will cost over $100 each way. However, there is public transportation, but it takes a while, and it’s easy to miss connections:
    - Take the FLYAWAY bus, $9.75 one way to Union Station.
    - At the station, find the Metrolink train East, to Claremont
From the Claremont Depot, Scripps College is 4 miles, uphill, so best to Uber or Lyft from there.

If you are considering a longer stay in the Los Angeles area, renting a car at Ontario Airport is easy, but you probably won’t need it at all when staying at the College for the camp. Things to do within an hour from Claremont? Disneyland, Venice Beach, Santa Monica, the Getty Museum, DTLA, Little Tokyo, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Around Claremont, or places further east? A trip to Mt Baldy Zen Center, great hiking and views, and 1.5 hours away to the east is Joshua Tree National Park, and a half hour farther east is Palm Springs. June weather is quite moderate.

    Weather at Camp
The possibility of rain is slim to none, and it shouldn’t be too hot yet either. The average high/low for June is 85/55 F.
